Apple iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy S8

Here are the new smartphones that are marvelous with an OLED screen (works without a backlight because it emits visible light), loaded with the latest technology inside and a soaring price point.
We are talking about the Samsung Galaxy S8:

And the Apple iPhone X:

Here's how it looks like:
(category by category)

DESIGN
If one looks at the iPhone X and Galaxy S8, it may seem like it but no, they are not identical.

The iPhone X has followed trend of the Galaxy S8 which is why it is mostly dominated by the screen on the front. the Galaxy S8 is basically glass on the back, as well, and the whole thing definitely pops. The curved screen of the phone barely has any bezel on the sides, while the top and the bottom have slim black bars (which makes it look pretty seamless). Basically, It is fabulous.

Now here, Apple decides to have the screen stretch to all four sides. They also have a little notch in the display up top, with space for the front and infrared cameras, the microphone, and sensors. It's a bit strange, but the nearly-all-screen face is also very notable. And it too has glass on the back.

CAMERA
Continuing the last year’s trend, this year too, the iPhone X has an extra back camera.
The iPhone X has a pair of 12-megapixel shooters on the back: one wide angle (f/1.8), the other telephoto (f/2.4) – both with optical image stabilisation – and the pairing of the two allow you to explore some optical zoom, as well as take stunning Portrait shots. It also has the new Portrait Lighting feature which lets you adjust the lighting on every shot, which works out well and results in amazing pictures.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 has one 12MP back camera (f/1.7), and it's quite outstanding. There’s been a ton of software enhancements, which makes it a bit  better than the Galaxy S7's camera, and it gives us crisp and colorful shots.

Basically, both the phones have a pretty good camera and will result in sick pictures. So you can choose either and it will work out for you.

SCREEN

The Galaxy S8 and the  iPhone X both have a 5.8in, taller-than-usual OLED screen with an HDR support. The Galaxy S8 screen curves on the left and right sides while, the iPhone X screen is flat. Also, the iPhone X resolution is lower at 2436x1125 (458 ppi) while the Galaxy S8 has a resolution bump, coming in at 2960x1440 (571 ppi).

The screen of iPhone X is easily brighter and more vivid than most LCD screens of models in the past (including iPhone 8). Even though Galaxy 8 has a better resolution, iPhone X gets this one owing to its unique  perks like: a True Tone screen (ie. the colours adjust automatically based on your ambient lighting) and a 3D Touch screen (which brings pressure sensitivity to apps, games, and the UI).

BATTERY AND OTHER PERKS

The Galaxy S8, has a 3,000mAh battery pack that can last for a full day. The iPhone X packs in 2,716mAh between two cells (lasts a tiny bit longer than the iPhone 8). So, in everyday usage, it should get you a full day without much difficulty. Again, they're actually pretty close.

In terms of storage, the iPhone X has  64GB and 256GB models, but STILL doesn't have microSD support. While with the Galaxy S8, you get 64GB within and you can build out from there.

The iPhone X has ditched Apple's Touch ID sensor in favour of Face ID via the new True Depth front-facing camera setup, and unlocking your phone with a look is pretty sassy, but not full proof (yes, it can fail on occasion, and you need to keep trying again or tap in your passcode).

Although it is significantly better than Galaxy S8’s facial scanning. The Galaxy also has a fingerprint sensor on the back but it is located in a bit of an awkward location ie. next to the camera sensor (what?!).

Then there’s the True Depth feature in the iPhone X which enables it to offer a funny and goofy animated emoji that basically imitates you by mimicking your expressions (target marketing done right, apple). Meanwhile, Samsung has some hardware related bonuses. To name a few, a Gear VR support (cool and entertaining), a DeX Station dock support (lets you plug your phone into the dock and connect it to a monitor for a PC-like desktop work environment).

All in all, Samsung has enough useful perks here to easily take this category.

PERFORMANCE
Let’s put it like this: Samsung can not keep up when the iPhone X's A11 Bionic chip gets into the game.

Several benchmark tests have been conducted that make it very clear that the A11 Bionic blows every other smartphone out of the ring in terms of overall performance, with single-core scores that double the Galaxy S8, and a multi-core score that's more than 50% higher. In fact, the scores even beat a modern MacBook Pro! And all of that with 3GB RAM in the iPhone X vs. 4GB in the Galaxy S8.

Keeping the benchmark tests aside and bringing into consideration the day to day usage the Galaxy S8 is incredibly responsive with Android Nougat installed. Similarly the iPhone X is super speedy with iOS 11 in tow. They're both as fast as one would expect them to be.

Although, Apple gets this one  for loading so much into such a slender handset.

CONCLUSION

The Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S8 are two different phones, each of them packed with their own unique features. They are both, easily, great choices in smartphones as of today.
So here comes the catch, the difference in the selling price of both the smartphones is (hold your breaths), ₹29,599. Yeah. And you probably guessed it right the Galaxy S8 is the less expensive one. It is available in India at a price of ₹53,900. While the iPhone X is at ₹83,499. All said, basically if you have the money to invest in apple phone, go ahead and do it. It’s a great phone with endless perks & advantages and it will not let you down. But if you don’t have that kind of money you are not at a loss. You can buy the Galaxy S8 which is clearly as good as the iPhone X (sometimes better) and we assure you will not regret the purchase.
